Katyn victims remembered
November 10, 2007
Almost 15,000 names were read out at the service in Warsaw to remember the Poles killed in the Katyn forest in western Russia 67 years ago. Polish President Lech Kaczynski posthumously promoted many of the soldiers who were among the victims. In 1990, Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev acknowledged that Stalin's secret police were responsible for the killings, but a subsequent Russian investigation ended inconclusively.
