ROYAL SHAKES UP CAMPAIGN

Faced with stubbornly second-best ratings just two months before polling day, French presidential candidate Segolene Royal has managed to convince several former rivals in the Socialist party to put their all into her campaign. A former finance minister and an former prime minister are now firmly onside as France's left battles to beat current predictions that rightwinger Nicolas Sarkozy would beat Royal in a head-to-head second round.
