Firemen and police clash in Paris
November 22, 2006
Protesters were demanding the right to retire with full benefits at the age of 55 instead of 60 and the granting for everyone of a 70 euros premium. Holding banners reading "still dangerous and unhealthy but not recognized yet," setting off flares, blasting their fire engine's sirens, they marched from Denfert Rochereau square to Nation. Despite long negotiations with the government last week, four unions rejected some proposals made by Brice Hortefeux, Minister-Delegate for Local Government at the Interior Ministry.
