Cliff-hanger rescue stops nation

The plight of a stray dog stranded on a cliff top in Japan stopped the nation as its rescue was broadcast live on television. The dog was mysteriously stranded 100 metres up the side of a hill and nearly all Japan's television networks broke into regular programming to screen the rescue. Authorities in Tokushima prefecture have been inundated with requests to adopt the dog, nicknamed "Cliff-hanger Canine" by the Japanese media.
