A US embassy spokesman said that US Ambassador Ronald Neumann was not in the convoy, which was attacked on the outskirts of the Afghan capital Kabul. There are conflicting reports of several deaths, but these have not been confirmed. Several embassy officials and bystanders were wounded in the blast, some seriously.
