Women make inroads in Mauritanian politics

On Sunday, Mauritanians go to the polls to elect a new president, capping a political transition set in motion by coup d'etat in the summer of 2005. Since the overthrow of president Ould Taya, military authorities have encouraged women to play a greater role in politics and many have been elected to office.
