Serbia's presidential hopefuls in showdown

January 21, 2008

Nationalist hardliner Tomislav Nikolic won the first round of Serbia's presidential race, partial results showed, but still faces a runoff with incumbent reformist Boris Tadic. With Sunday's record of around 60 percent highlighting public concerns for the future, partial results showed Nikolic, who favours closer ties with Russia, on 38.2 percent, with Tadic, who wants to take Serbia into the European Union, trailing on 35.1 percent. An AFPTV report.
