Palestinian crowds cheered as the bulldozer flattened sections of the chain and concrete fence. Egyptian riot police who had tried to regain control of the crossing watched from a distance as hundreds more streamed into Egypt intent on prolonging their newfound freedom and stocking up on basics in short supply due to an Israeli blockade.
