Islamists oppose Somalia UN force
December 07, 2006
The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously to authorise a regional peacekeeping force to help prop up Somalia's western-backed government. The U.S.-led resolution also urges the interim government to resume talks with its Islamist rivals. The Unions of Islamic Courts, which controls the capital Mogadishu and much of the south, said it would forcibly resist any peacekeeping forces.
