Beirut clashes
December 04, 2006
The shooting dead of a Shi'ite protester by Sunni gunmen heightened fears that Lebanon's political crisis could easily descend into sectarian strife. The opposition said the killing would not deter its campaign to topple the pro-US government. For a fourth day, Shi'ite Muslim group Hezbollah and its allies in the opposition camped out in central Beirut, within view of the prime minister's office.
