The German football team swap their kit for traditional alpine climbing gear in a promotion for sponsor Mercedes Benz. German mountaineering was at a zenith in the early half of the twentieth century, when climbers were lauded as heroes as they conquered alpine peaks via treacherous routes, most famously the north face of the Eiger in 1938.
