Finally home for New Year
February 06, 2008
The Lunar New Year sees one of the largest annual human migrations in China. On the holiday's eve, a sense of normalcy seems to have returned to China's southern city of Guangzhou--where at its peak 800,000 people were stranded waiting for trains back home. The State Electricity Regulatory Commission said it intended to restore power to 80 percent of affected households in the next few days. Supply to the rest of the families would be resumed by tapping some 2,670 diesel-fired generating vehicles.
