Troops deployed in Bangladesh

The opposition Awami League and its allies demanding electoral reforms have paralysed the country with nationwide blockades and protests in recent weeks. According to a late-night statement from the government, only hours before the latest opposition rally was to start in the capital Dhaka, the army has been deployed "in aid of the civil administration to protect public life and property."
