Scores killed in suicide blast
December 12, 2006
Tayran Square in central Baghdad is a gathering point for manual workers in the construction trade. The square was crowded with poor Shi'ite labourers, hoping to be hired for a day's work. The bomber lured a crowd of hopeful men to his car before detonating the vehicle. The bombing happened hours before President Bush was to review his unpopular Iraq policy in a video teleconference with U.S. military commanders in Iraq.
