Blue chips tumbled 293 points, a drop of 2.3 percent, to 12,099. The S&P 500 fell 32 points, or 2.4 percent, to 1,298. The Nasdaq fell 58 points, or 2.6 percent, to 2,209. Crude oil dropped $5 to settle at $104.48.Conway Gittens reports from New York.Conway Gittens reports from New York.
