Revival of the kibbutz
March 26, 2008
For many years, the residents of Israel's kibbutzim followed a socialist doctrine as they shared possessions and lived and worked together. This type of communal living played a central role in the founding of the Jewish state, before falling out of favour in 1980s. Now many kibbutzim have gone private and are embracing tourism and eco-friendly practices in a bid to attract more young families looking for an alternative to the daily grind of city life.Joanna Partridge reportsJoanna Partridge reports
