Pruning Hydrangeas

I get a lot of questions about pruning hydrangea. Basically, there are three types of plants: those whose flowers bloom on "old wood" and those that bloom on new wood. There are also some varieties that bloom on a mix of the two. The old wood is last years growth. If the plant blooms on this type of growth it means the buds are there all winter long.
