UN staff die in Afghanistan

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on a U.N. convoy outside the southern Afghan city of Kandahar. The resurgent guerrillas have stepped up their attacks on foreigners and anyone seen supporting them. In a separate incident, a blast in a school compound killed four children in the western city of Herat. Local police blamed the Taliban for that attack as well.
