One of the most important houses ever built in America is actually a house of glass. Built in New Canaan, Connecticut in 1949 by architect Philip Johnson, the Glass House quickly became a critically acclaimed icon of modern design, and now it is a public museum, operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
