Boris Yeltsin dies
April 23, 2007
Former Russian leader Boris Yeltsin has died aged 76. Yeltsin was president from 1991 to 1999, an extremely turbulent period in Russia's history. He presided over the demise of Soviet communism to become Russia's first democratically elected leader. In his latter years his power appeared to be clouded by the effects of alcohol.
