Russian troops are manning checkpoints deep inside Georgia, including in the port city of Poti, after promising a full pullout from the country. Russian forces have been establishing checkpoints at eight locations skirting the breakaway region of South Ossetia and Georgia's main east-west highway. There are also reports that hundreds of Russian troops are waiting at a border checkpoint in breakaway South Ossetia waiting to cross into Russia. Hundreds of Georgians, meantime, staged an angry protest against a group of Russian troops in the Black Sea port of Poti.
