Gulf takes on Japan as new pearl hub

The Gulf states are synonymous with oil, but before this black gold, a milky white gem was the driving motor of the country's economy. Pearls from the United Arab Emirates were highly coveted items. But the industry fell upon hard times and now a half a century later, there is hope that pearls will once again become a bestseller.
