MASS RALLY IN TURKEY AMID TENSE POLITICAL STANDOFF

More than a million Turks took to the streets of Istanbul on Sunday waving flags and shouting slogans in defence of the country's cherished secular system and against army intervention in politics. The demo comes amid a tense stand-off between the Islamist-rooted government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the army.
