G8 leaders agree on halving emissions by 2050

The Group of Eight major powers agreed on Tuesday to at least halve global carbon emissions by 2050, in what leaders hailed as a step forward. The decision could pave the way for UN negotiations towards a global agreement by the end of 2009.
