Extreme flooding in Greece

Towns and villages around the prefectures of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki were hardest hit with local authorities declaring a state of emergency in the area. Rescue helicopters swooped into areas evacuating people by air as several villages were immersed in up to a metre of water, while flooding closed roads cutting off transport links to many areas.
