Cheney drops in on Iraq
May 09, 2007
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney visited Baghdad signalling growing U.S. impatience with Iraq's government. Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has failed to secure power-sharing agreements despite a build up of American troops to secure Baghdad. President Bush is sending 30,000 extra troops to Iraq for a security crackdown seen as a last ditch effort to stave off civil war between majority Shi'ites and once-dominant Sunni Arabs.
