Islamists flee Mogadishu

The government forces, backed by Ethiopian troops, have been fighting there way towards the city since December 21. A government spokesman said the Somalian president and prime minister were preparing to move to Mogadishu from their previous base in Baidoa. An amnesty has been offered to Islamists fighters who lay down their weapons.
