Hungarian PM under pressure
October 02, 2006
The drubbing comes two weeks after the leak of a tape in which Gyurcsany admitted his party had lied to win the parliamentary election in April. The Hungarian leader is refusing to step down, despite the hammering in local elections which saw the opposition centre-right win 18 out of 19 counties and all but four of the 23 cities up for election. Earlier, Hungary's president Laszlo Solyom accused Gyurcsany of abusing his office and in veiled language urged the parliament to sack the PM.
