Lehman revives bank-fueled angst
September 09, 2008
The health of America's financial system was once again called into question as worries grow about the future of Lehman Brothers. The nation's No. 4 investment bank has so far been unable to find a partner or sell lucrative assets to offset mounting mortgage-related losses. Those concerns sparked the biggest sell-off in the benchmark S&P 500 in 3 months. The Dow tumbled 280 points to 11,230. The Nasdaq fell nearly 60 points to 2,209. Crude oil fell to the more than $103 a barrel. Conway Gittens reports from New York.
