Cannes rolls out red carpet
May 17, 2007
A 10-day beachside extravaganza which is the world's most important face-off of international film opens on Wednesday. The Cannes festival will see a host of directors, actors and hangers-on saunter up its red carpet, beginning with the premiere of Wong Kar Wai's "My Blueberry Nights" on Wednesday evening. It is one of 22 films competing for Cannes's prestigious Palme d'Or prize, which will be chosen by a jury headed by British director Stephen Frears.
