Joy Division biopic gets nod
May 18, 2007
Although not in competition, the biopic about Joy Division's legendary frontman Ian Curtis, gets a standing ovation in Cannes. Cannes has a love affair with music this year as a string of music films finds their way to the Croisette. Director of "Control" Anton Corbijn will be reunited with U2 on Friday when they premiere their larger-than-life film "U23D". Corbijn spent 22 years photographing the Irish rockers and also published the first photos of Joy Division. The film is based on a book by Curtis' widow Debbie Woodruff. The singer was only 23 when he committed suicide.
