Dozens die in Iraq wave of violence
October 19, 2006
The U.S President agreed with possible comparisons between the rise in violence in Iraq and the 1968 Tet offensive in Vietnam which communist forces lost but won a major propaganda victory and prompted Americans to lose support for the conflict. The White House later said Bush was not suggesting Iraq had reached a similar turning point but that insurgents may be stepping up attacks to try to influence coming U.S. elections.
