Romanian Drama Clinches Cannes Prize
May 28, 2007
A bracing story about a back-alley abortion in communist Romania captured Cannes' top prize, the Palme d'Or, capping a year in which underdog directors bested the biggest names in cinema. "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days", directed by Cristian Mungiu, was crowned at the awards ceremony Sunday night that capped the 60th edition of the world's premiere film festival. Acclaimed films by well-known directors, including the Coen brothers, Quentin Tarantino and Hong Kong's Wong Kar Wai were left out in the cold. A review of awards night.
