German economy to contract in 2009

Germany's Ifo economic institute predicts the GDP of Europe's biggest economy will shrink by 2.2 percent in 2009, slashing its previous prediction of modest growth. Germany's export-driven economy has suffered as foreign demand has weakened since the global financial crisis. Joanna Partridge reports for Reuters
