Ex-Taiwan leader in graft trial
March 26, 2009
Taiwan's former President Chen Shui-bian has gone on trial accused of a series of corruption charges that he has dismissed as a political plot. Prosecutors have charged Chen with embezzlement, taking bribes, forgery and money laundering relating to his eight years in office. Chen was swept from office a year ago when Taiwan elected the pro-China Kuomintang party leader, Ma Ying-jeou.
