Openly gay leader is new Iceland PM
February 02, 2009
The leader of Iceland's new coalition government is the openly gay, former social affairs minister, Johanna Sigurdardottir. The 66-year-old former flight attendant will serve as interim prime minister of a new centre-left coalition until new elections are held in April. Iceland's previous prime minister, Geir Haarde resigned on Monday after weeks of anti-government protests, the first leader to fall as a direct result of the global economic crisis.
