Europe's 'stereotype' sculpture
January 14, 2009
A Czech sculptor, David Cerny, and other Czech artists have created a work for EU headquarters that draws on the stereotypes of different European countries. Cerny says that "grotesque exaggeration and mystification is a hallmark of Czech culture." In the work Romania is depicted with Dracula's castle, France with a "Strike" sign, and Bulgaria dominated by a "Turkish" squat toilet.
