If you've ever been caught driving in the middle of a rainstorm on the Admiral Wilson Boulevard, you know what happens. It floods. But hopefully, those days will soon be over. 76,000 cars use that stretch of highway daily between the Ben Franklin Bridge and Camden County. But it's been closed 94 times in five years because of flooding due to rain, snow and high tides on the Cooper River. Now, the state plans to spend 20 million dollars in federal stimulus money to improve drainage. The plans call for new retention ponds, larger pipes and curbside grates. Construction will take a year once it gets started, which should be in the fall.
