October 29, 2009

PHOENIX, ARIZONA - Thursday, September 24, 2009. **CROWBAR ATTACK** A woman attacks a clerk at Name Brand Exchange in Mesa, hitting her twice with a crowbar before stealing money from the cash register. According to witnesses, she handed the clerk a 20 dollar bill to pay for some men's shirts, then pulled out the crowbar and hit the clerk. When the clerk tried to stop her, the woman struck again. Police said the robber escaped with more than $200 in cash. The clerk may have broken her hand during the incident, but she is otherwise OK, co-workers said. Three days after the incident police arrested Karla Janeth Jauregui, 21, at Arizona State University on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery. Jauregui, who is an ASU student, admitted to hitting a clerk at Name Brand Exchange in Mesa twice with a crowbar. She said she did it because she was having financial problems, police said.
