Iraqis face acute water shortages

Iraq suffered major water shortages even before the 2003 U.S.-led invasion, but post-war looting of vital infrastructure, sabotage and power-cuts have brought the crisis to a new level. Most Iraqis have no choice but to drink from contaminated water sources, exposing the young and elderly in particular to dangerous waterborne diseases.
