Girls under the knife in Ivory Coast
June 11, 2007
Female circumcision is condemned in western countries as barbaric mutilation but yet three million girls, most aged under 10, still undergo the ritual in 28 countries around the world, according to a recent World Health Organisation report. The practice is still widespread in mainly sub-Saharan Afican countries. This report comes from a village in Ivory Coast where the tradition is still carried out.
