Gaza fighting intensifies

The Hamas-Fatah power struggle brings further bloodshed and fears that the violence could spread to the West Bank. At least 55 people have been killed in Gaza in the past four days during the fiercest internal fighting for months between Islamist Hamas gunmen and the secular Fatah movement of President Mahmoud Abbas. The conflict, in the narrow Gaza Strip which is little more than two dozen miles long and a handful across, appears to be bordering on civil war.
