Strike damaging South Africa, says Zuma

South Africa's two-week-old public sector strike should have been avoided and is damaging the country's image abroad, the deputy leader of the governing ANC, Jacob Zuma, has said. Zuma, seen as a possible successor to President Thabo Mbeki, said he regretted the inability of both sides to negotiate in order to avoid the general strike, which has paralyzed much of Africa's largest economy.
