The UN says Gaza will run out of food and fuel within weeks unless Israel reopens the borders. The UN issued its warning as Israel eased its blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip to allow the evacuation of several critically ill Palestinians. Foreign passport holders are also being permitted to cross into Israel. At the same time Israel, along with western powers have rallied behind Palestinian and Fatah leader, Mahmoud Abbas, ending an 18-month-old embargo and pledging to work with his new West Bank-based emergency government. There's also been a skirmish between Israeli troops and Islamic fighters in Gaza and Israeli war planes launched an an airstrike in retaliation for a rocket attack against the Jewish state.
