Ousted Thai ex-PM bids for UK club
June 21, 2007
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra launches takeover bid for Premiership soccer club Manchester City. The English Premiership club said it backed a $163 million dollar takeover bid led by the ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, despite corruption charges being laid against the former Thai leader. Thaksin has lived in London since he was overthrown in a bloodless coup last September. The charges relate to graft allegations in a land deal involving Thaksin's wife.
