we start our extensive live team coverage with jason stiff for a big picture look at the storm. with snow coming down right now ... a lot of people are wondering what the roads are going to look like tomorrow morning. there have already been several weather related accidents -- and as we mentioned -- eastbound i-40 is closed at moriarty. jeff maher is live at i-40 and tramway to tell us how the interstate closure could expand. at any ment now -- that closure of i-40 could expand from moriarty -- to here at tramway. we're waiting for state police to make a decision about that. i wouldn't be surprised if that happens -- the snow is falling hard and fast -- i-40 is nasty. the side roads here are snowpacked, and driving on the highway -- it starts as just rain on your windows -- but then turns to ice in seconds. within the past 30 minutes, we took a drive further east of tramway. this is what it looks like. there is hardly anyone on the highway right now. and for good reason -- it's getting hard to see -- and hard to maintain control behind the wheel. d-o-t crews certainly have a long night ahead of them. they'll be getting some help. right now the city has 8 trucks out and about removing snow and ice. by early tomorrow morning, that number will more than double. also, 3-1-1 lines will open at 6 a-m if you need information about your bus and trash services. live near i-40 and tramway. jeff maher. kob. eyewitness news 4. we sent crews up i-25 where driving got a lot tougher once the sun went down. we even caught a couple crashes near la bajada. and our photographer says at points the snow was coming down so hard his camera just recorded white. let's go up north now to the city of santa fe where it's still coming down. gadi schwartz has been in the cold since this morning.... and he's still at it tonight. he joins us live from outside our santa fe bureau... not much solid road left in santa fe- the main streets are now packed with snow and ice- cerillos- st francis- old las vegas highway. and the few roads that have seen some plowing tonight are now just sheets of ice. the good thing is people seem to be staying home and there is not much traffic- out on the interstate- snow plows are not able to keep up- its even hard to see where the median is - let alone lanes- thats how high the snow has piled. 2 wheel driver cars have been abandoned tonight - in snow drifts - near bridges- and the snow keeps falling. for now all those santa fe kids hoping for a snow day tomorrow seem to have some say in the weather. as for now santa fe schools are on a 2 hour day- we sent our eddie garcia even farther up i-25 to san miguel county. he's in las vegas now where it's still snowing. he continues our live team coverage. we haven't had a break from the snow all afternoon and all evening here in las vegas - it's still coming down very hard collecting on everything including the roads which are freezing over. on our way up here earlier we saw several stranded vehicles of all sizes on the side of i-25 as well as state police and road crews helping people out. tonight here in las vegas people are working to stay ahead of the snow by clearing walk ways and streets. earlier i spoke with the general manager of three radio stations here who is preparing for even more snow predicted for tonight. i'm thinking at the rate it's going there isn't going to be much moving in the morning other than just snow plows. the department of transportation is telling me that 1-25 is snow packed and icy between the glorietta exit all the way to wagon mound. they recommend you stay off the roads if at all possible. tom, nicole i'm not going to pull out any rulers or anything to show you how deep the snow is - i'm just going to refer you to this picnic table which had just a light dusting of snow only a few hours ago - now it's really piling up. live in las vegas - eddie garcia kob eyewitness news 4. kob eyewitness news 4 is getting up extra early with you tomorrow morning for extensive coverage of this continuing storm. steve stucker and antoinette antonio will be on the air starting at 4:30--a half hour earlier than normal-- with live coverage of the snow, road conditions and school delays and closings
