partiers rallied downtown tonight. they're upset about the city shutting down their party spot and say the man who leases the building is being treated unfairly. joe vigil is live downtown with what his supporters and the city are saying tonight. joe. a couple police cars were nearby tonight but the event ended peacefully. people are frustrated the city has closed down the building where they partied and want it reopened. they say they just want to dance. "i think we're all being attacked because we just want to have fun we just want to dance we just want to love." "dancing is not a crime and we should be able to dance freely." but the city crashed the party just over a week ago. minute thumbnail 10:04 pm officials say this party was extremely overcrowded...say ing there were several safety violations including exposed wiring and only one legal fire exit. police busted a second party here the very next night. joe hernandez leases the building and is now facing criminal "joe has just done so much for the music scene and he's helped a lot of kids out and he give them a place to come and just hang out and listen to music and i think it's kind of unfair what's happened with him recently." "this is not a bad environment for the youth. i've been going to joe's venues since i was in early high school. and i've never been in trouble there. i've never had anything happen. it's just a good place to be for musicians and artists." "this isn't about dancing this isn't about music this is simply us enforcing the law. the law exists for a reason and we cannot turn a blind eye. because if we turn a blind eye on this particular venue if a fire were to break out and someone loses their life then the questions you'd be asking me right now are quite different."
