blast is already pounding western parts of the state hard. the arizona-new mexico state line is getting hit with snow and ice. jeff maher joins us live now from gallup for a look at the conditions right now. jeff. the snow has been falling for at least an hour -- the side streets throughout gallup, like this one behind me are staying clear for now. and just across the way from us, you can see traffic is moving just fine along i- 40. the big shocker for everyone right now --- is the wind. just trying to walk across the parking lot at this truck stop outside of gallup minute thumbnail 05:02 pm was not an easy thing to do -- the sustained wind gusts were intense. on the highway, the wind forced drivers to slow down. the snow is not yet sticking to the highways -- so d- o-t crews haven't had much to plow. on mainstreet gallup, we caught people doing some last-minute shopping before nestling in for the night. and for a lot of travelers heading through -- this storm is not something they were expecting. i'm from denver, i'm driving from phoenix back to denver but it looks like i'll only make it to albuquerque tonight -why, because of the storm, yeah because of the storm, i don't want to keep driving, take a break for five or six hours this is new for us, in san jose california, it doesn't snow much, so this is nice this is video of d-o-t crews in gallup heading out from the yard -- they're prepared for a long night. according to the d-o-t website, minute thumbnail 05:03 pm snow and icy conditions are being reported on i-40 from the state line to about 50 miles west of here. we'll bring you the latest on this storm coming up at six. live from gallup. jeff maher. kob. eyewitness news 4.
