e fight continues over the future of the state's dna lab. today the move began-- to transfer the lab from albuquerque to santa fe. but not much was accomplished. kayla anderson is live in the newsroom to explain why. the crime lab needs to be completely moved-- files and all-- to santa fe by tomorrow... before the lab here in albuquerque closes for the holiday. but the city says there's no way that's going to happen. the department of public safety sent a team of scientists to the crime lab today. they're sorting through files.. while a main computer server was sent to santa fe. the city asked that the department of public safety provide a backup hard drive before the move. we've learned a department of public safety employee brought a hard drive from his home... hoping it would suffice. "obviously we were not minute thumbnail 06:09 pm going to let them download sensitive evidence, containing dna profiles of thousands of suspects onto their own home drive, that maybe even contained christmas pictures." there are 30 filing cabinets to sort through... which we're told contain about 70- thousand files. but, at last check this afternoon ... only one of those cabinets had been inveoried. all 30 have to be inventoried by 4pm tomorrow- when the crime lab closes... that's a deadline the city says is impossible to meet. i put in a call to the department of public safety for comment... but so far my call hasn't been returned. reporting live in the newsroom, kayla anderson, kob eyewitness news 4. for the first time tonight we're hearing some of the 9-1-1 calls police received the night of a deadly wrong way crash in santa fe.
