At the DOT yard in Gallup on Wednesday crews were constantly on the move filling up with salt and sand to prevent more drivers from sliding off the highway. But with only a few snowplows, there's a lot of ground to cover from Gallup to the Arizona state line. Driver Rick Carney is helping move his sister up to Colorado Springs. He says if the roads get worse, like many drivers, he's not going to risk it. Carney reports some roads were shut down near Flagstaff, but they made it through. "It was beautiful until we got about halfway to here, then it started [snowing]," said Carney. For hours Wednesday, Gallup was hit with a relentless round of snow that piled up fast and sent people running for cover. Before the snow hit, it was the wind that made the strongest impact. While some drivers were forced to take a break as the strong gusts made control of vehicles difficult.
